“Great Location Outside of Downtown London”

My wife and I stayed at the Hyatt House Stratford for eight nights in August and here is what we experienced. Location: As others have reviewed, the hotel is part of the Westfield Stratford City Mall. The entrance to the hotel is located next to some restaurants and stores on the outer part of the mall. From Heathrow Airport, the travel was about 1 hour via a shuttle, which we made advanced reservations. I am sure there is a way to take the train to the hotel, we did not do that since we had several pieces of luggage. Dropped off at the Hotel: Since the hotel is located within the shopping center, there is no entrance for a vehicle to drop you off at the hotel. Our shuttle driver was confused of where to drop us off, but we learned if you get dropped off or picked up at "The Cow" Restaurant, the entrance is a short walk down walkway. When you leave the hotel the very nice bell people will use the luggage cart to assist you with your luggage to take it to the pick up point. According to our shuttle driver, London is very strict on where he can stop to pick up and drop off people so it seems the area near the Cow restaurant was an okay spot. Checking In: We arrived at the hotel on a Saturday morning at about 11:00 am and unfortunately the room was not available. We were disappointed because after travelling over 24 hours from Honolulu, we was hoping to take a shower and change clothes. The person checking us in said they hope to have a room ready by 1:00 and we can leave our luggage with them which we did. We also ended up changing clothes in the restroom located near the restaurant. After exploring the shopping mall we went back to the hotel at about 1:30 and noticed several people were getting their card keys to their room. However after we checked, these guests were staying at the Hyatt Regency which shares the same common areas as the Hyatt House. When you get there make sure you take the correct elevator to your floor because one set is on the Hyatt Regency side and the other set of elevators is for Hyatt House. We finally was able to access our room at 2:00. Room: We had a one king bed studio and the room looked just like the pictures on the website. As you enter the room, there was a kitchen counter that had a sink and small stove. There were also cabinets that had dishes, cups, etc. to cook a meal. There was also a dishwasher and a small refrigerator. We did not cook but the refrigerator came in handy. As for the space, it was adequate for the two of us and our suitcases. The one item I thought was a negative was there was only one hook to hang a towel so I ended up using one of the hangers to hang my bath towel. The wifi for the room was great, I could still accomplish my work email and projects with no problems. Breakfast: Our room had the breakfast buffet included and I thought it was adequate. I did not eat every morning, but when I did there were items that was good for me. Transportation: We used the London Tube a lot and the Stratford Station is about a 10 minute walk from the hotel. Another reason we wanted to stay at this hotel is there are a number of different lines that will take you to all parts of London and beyond. Just be aware that some of the train cars are not air conditioned so it can be pretty warm especially when there are a lot of people and it is a hot day. Shopping: We shopped at the mall several times. There are several grocery stores (M&S Food and Waitrose) located in the mall. In addition there were several restaurants in the mall. One night after coming back from a play, all of the restaurants and stores were closed. However the casino was opened and they were still serving food. So that was good. West Ham Soccer: The hotel is about a 10 minute walk to the stadium so we went to a match and had a great time. Just know that if you are using the Stratford Station before or especially after a match, it will be very crowded in the area with the fans arriving or leaving the match. Hotel Staff: The hotel staff was good, the best were the doorman/bell people located on the ground floor. They are the first people you see when you enter and the last when you exit. They were always very cheerful saying good morning or good night when we saw them. Checking Out: Since we had multiple pieces of luggage, the staff helped us with our luggage to our shuttle pick up point near the Cow restaurant. We thought that was very nice of them to do this. We were very pleased with staying at the hotel. We knew in advance that majority of the things we will be seeing was going to be in London itself and the time to get there and back from the hotel will be adding time to the transportation, because since the hotel is located within the mall with the different stores, we thought it was a good compromise. We would definitely stay at the Hyatt House again.
