We booked to stay in the B&B 8 to 11 August. We were amazed at the low cost, and thought that this was due to being outside the city walls. We had been asked what time we would arrive, and I estimated 14.00 to give us time to get from the airport to the B&B. When we arrived, we did not think that we were in the right place, as this is a residential area and we were standing outside a building with no reception. There was an intercom, and we buzzed, but there was no response. After waiting about 15 mins, I called Amoma to find out what was happening. They were very helpful. There was also a woman who came out of the ground floor apartment, who said that she would call the owner (she spoke to English but I managed to understand her and convey who we were wait for). The owner finally arrived about an hour after we had arrived. The building was very shabby and old fashioned, but seemed clean. The lift was an old-fashioned one, where you have to close 2 doors in order for it to work. However, it did work and we arrived in the "B&B". The name gives an inaccurate perception f the accommodation in my opinion. Firstly, there was no breakfast included (although we had known this before we went) and secondly, it was an apartment separated into individual rooms. Once we were actually inside, the room, although small, was clean and had everything that we needed (bathroom, safe, aircon, bed etc). There was also free wifi, which was great, as my phone wasn't working. The aircon was not very good so it was quite warm, but I am OK with that. The safe needed batteries to work, but I had some spare ones that I had brought for my camera, so that was OK. There was no charge for either of these facilities. We were located about a mile out of the city walls. so it was quite a walk. However, we didn't mind this. We found a few bars and shops locally that were very nice. In all, I would say if you want to visit Rome on a budget, this is ideal. But I would suggest that you ask for a contact number as I was quite stressed not knowing what was happening when there was no-one there to check us in.
